Situated on 50 acres of land with 65% greenery intact, Gems City near Joka metro station is a fully integrated upcoming residential project in south Kolkata. What makes this mini-township or gated community particularly interesting is the array of different residential types that promise to abound.

In this blog we will be looking at how to use Vaastu principles, as we know them, to create a well-designed living room, which ensures that the right kind of energy flows into your home and attracts happiness and prosperity. It is not entirely possible, we understand, to comply with all the suggestions, due to inflexible structural realities, but try and see what is and can be possible.

  • • The main door usually opens into the living room and forms the gateway that can bring in negative or positive energy.
  • • The most favourable positions of the entrance door are north, east and north-east.
  • • The entrance should be well-illuminated, have an attractive nameplate and a floral toran.
  • • Avoid placing a shoe rack near the door.

Direction of the Living Room

  • • As per Vaastu, the living room should face the north, east, northeast or northwest.
  • • If the dining area is connected to the living room, it should be positioned to the east or southeast of the living room and should be close to the kitchen.
  • • In an open-plan design home, the puja room should be positioned northeast of the living room.

Furniture Layout

  • • Choose square or rectangular pieces of furniture and avoid rounded or odd shapes. Wooden furniture emits higher energy vibrations in comparison to synthetic materials.
  • • All the heavy pieces of furniture like the sofas should be placed in the west or southwest direction of the living room.
  • • Arrange the sofa against the north or the east wall.
  • • Install the TV unit in the southeast side of the living room.

Colour Scheme

  • • According to Vaastu, colours attract different kinds of energy. Avoid using dark colours and choose neutrals like white, cream, and beige instead. You can also consider hues like blue, green or warm yellow for the living room.
  • • Add richness and accentuate the decor of the living room by introducing throw cushions and accessories in rich hues of turquoise, pink, or gold.
  • • Avoid using colours like black and dark red as, according to Vaastu, these colours have the tendency to absorb negative energies.

Living Room Decor

  • • Make sure that the living room is always clean and clutter-free. Remove unnecessary pieces of furniture and non-essential items from the living room.
  • • Create a well-designed living room which reflects your taste and lifestyle and make sure that the decor evokes happy and peaceful emotions.
  • • Never decorate the living room with art pieces or accessories which depict sorrow or sadness. Remove items like broken showpieces, electrical appliances which do not work, broken mirrors, cracked glass and so on because as per Vaastu, they have the tendency to attract negative energy and bad luck.
  • • Incorporate artwork that displays the beauty of nature and avoid using dried flowers, a bonsai or cactus in the living room. Note that real flowers attract positive energy while dried flowers attract negative energies.
  • • Decorate your living room with air-purifying plants like money plant, spider plant, areca palm, snake plant and peace lily.
  • . • Bring in a peaceful and relaxing vibe by installing a fish aquarium in the north, east or northeast side of the living room. Place a water fountain in the north.
