Save money when moving – Begin beautiful living at Gems City Joka

A lot of families have started moving in to Gems City, near the Joka Metro station as handover has begun. Gems City is one of Kolkata’s largest gated residential projects, with every modern amenity you can think of. As the Joka-Esplanade Metro Purple Line nears completion, it is expected that thousands of families will be moving in to their new homes.

Moving house is exciting, but it can be quite stressful too. Little did we realise that as kids until decades later, as parents, we have to do it! There are just so many factors to consider: from finding the time and energy to box up all of your belongings, to picking a trustworthy packer and mover to safely transport them to another place, unpack and arrange them.

To top it all, moving house can prove to be costly. If you prepare yourself well in advance you can cut some of that cost. This blog intends to do just that; with thumb rules that can reduce wastage of your money…and time.

For a start, get quotes

Reach out to different packers and movers at both ends – pick up and destination – and get quotes. Knowing roughly how much your move can cost will help prevent you from going with a bid that is unfair.

Ask for a deal

It’s not uncommon for packers and movers to be willing to cut a deal, so it’s worth asking. See what deals different movers or shipping companies will offer depending on the type of move, and it’s always worth asking if others can beat or match it.

Put your money on reputation

While you may be tempted to save money selecting movers with the lowest charge, a low bid might indicate low-quality work. It could end with your belongings showing up late, or even broken, and you spending money to repair or replace them. Save your money and time; choose a reputable mover.

Be resourceful

Cut down on purchases of boxes, paper and bubble wrap by asking neighbours and friends who have recently moved or are about to move to save their boxes and extra moving supplies, for you. You can also stop by your neighbourhood wine store, loose tea seller, grocer or appliance store and request leftover cartons/boxes from recent deliveries.

Clothes work wonders

Stuff such as socks, towels, T-shirts and woollens work great as alternatives for wrapping glassware and protecting fragile valuables. Use them, and save space.

Make some money

Hold a sale at your premises of clothes, books, furniture and things that have lost their relevance – announcing it on your social media account. This will save you from filling your new home with old, unwanted material; decrease the size and trips of the moving vehicle and earn you money to offset expenses!

Have a standby plan

Your move-in date could change at the last minute. Having a backup plan in place can save you money. For instance, you can make plans ahead of time to stay with a friend or family member instead of paying expensive hotel bills. Or you can choose a packer and mover who won’t charge you for making a change at short notice.

Pack more into less

Put some items inside others before placing them into the cartons. That way, you’ll be able to fit more items into a single box, necessitating a smaller truck. The smaller the vehicle, the more money you save.

Avoid dual payment

Rather than suddenly find that you have to pay cable and internet costs at two places, cancel your current services. Shop around for the best deals and see what providers in your new area can offer.

Meal countdown

Take an inventory of everything in your refrigerator and kitchen and make a plan to use it up in the countdown to move-in day. It will result in low wastage at the last minute. Transfer your gas cylinder connection to the new location, well in advance.
